Beyond the Tourist Trail - 3 Stops to Add to Your Next Nashville Visit

When you think of Tennessee, downtown Nashville is probably the first place that comes to mind. As a hotspot for country music lovers and several legendary music venues, there’s a lot to love. However, that’s not the only reason to visit the Volunteer State. Keep reading for some lesser-known but still iconic restaurants, shops, and entertainment options to plan your next vacation.

Sylvan Park

Southwest of downtown Nashville is Sylvan Park, a neighborhood brimming with locally-owned restaurants, shops, and bars. Check out Edley’s Bar-B-Que for an authentic Southern BBQ experience, or the award-winning McCabe Pub, otherwise known as the “Cheers” of Nashville.

Caffe Nonna offers a more intimate setting and is the oldest Italian restaurant in Nashville. If you’re looking for a quick bite on the go, Star Bagel Cafe has an array of delicious bagels, breakfast sandwiches, and salads. After that, spend the day exploring gourmet food and luxury retail at L&L Market, a dynamic community offering several iconic destinations.

Stop by Elle Gray Boutique, a chic women’s clothing store that blends contemporary and classic pieces. If you need a break from the bustling streets, Richland Creek Greenway offers a 5-mile loop trail to escape into nature.

Downtown Franklin

Downtown Franklin is a charming community just south of Nashville with brick sidewalks, idyllic Victorian architecture, and numerous locally-owned shops. If you’re looking to get away from the typical big-box store, check out White’s Mercantile or Mercantile 1858, two general stores offering everything from home decor to vintage gifts.

Stop by PD’s, Storehouse No.9, or City Farmhouse for additional creative home decor and lifestyle ideas. Emmaline is also a top Franklin shopping destination offering contemporary clothing and accessories from national brands and local artisans. Nestled in downtown Franklin’s antiques district is Scarlett Scales Antiques, a shop brimming with a blend of modern and vintage finds.

If you’re looking for a bite to eat, grab a sandwich at Franklin Mercantile Deli or stop by Meridee’s for something sweet.

Leiper’s Fork

After exploring downtown Franklin, head over to Leiper’s Fork, an eclectic village packed with world-class food, shops, and art. Spend a few nights at Sweeney Cottage, a historic house built in 1892, and book a tasting at Wines in the Fork, a creekside winery with live local music.

Stop by Leiper’s Fork Distillery to embark on a tour and learn about high-end premium whiskeys. Fox & Locke is a prime location for comfort food and live music, while The RedByrd Coffee Shop offers signature drinks and freshly baked bread.

For art lovers, check out The Copper Fox Gallery or Leiper’s Creek Gallery and explore the world of fine Southern art. Patina Home & Garden is another Leiper’s Fork favorite full of antiques, apparel, and home decor. Once you’re done exploring, visit The Spa at Leiper’s Fork for some pampering and relaxation.
